About The OPPORTUNITY
We have a great opportunity for a Deputy project Engineering Manager to join our Maritime Sustainment based at Garden Island – Sydney – NSW, reporting to the program Manager.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

You will be responsible for delivering engineering outputs of the project within the triple constraints of quality, cost and schedule (henceforth referred to as Integrated Project Performance). In doing this, the dPEM is responsible for ensuring engineering outputs are developed in accordance with approved company standard procedures and processes and meet the agreed operational needs of the customer including product safety and security.

The dPEM is also responsible for estimating, resourcing and delivery of the engineering effort required for the technical solution. The dPEM develops tactical plans for execution of the technical aspects of the program in conjunction with the PEM. Specifically, the dPEM formulates the technical approach to the work to be performed, assigns and manages the resources to execute the engineering program / project. The dPEM then monitors progress of the engineering program and highlights issues within the program to the PEM. The dPEM implements corrective actions where necessary.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Responsible for complying with requirements of the BAE Systems Quality Systems as they relate to own areas of activity
  • Eligible to hold a dPEM or PEM delegation
  • Responsible for continuous process improvement (recommend improvement to the company processes and standard procedures)
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Operational Framework document on LCM (LCM.OF.102.POL)
  • Responsible for review and approval of the technical aspects of a Control Account Manager's
  • Variance reports (i.e. the problem and corrective action descriptions)
  • Lead and manage engineering staff or business partnerships/ Sub-contracts.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering cost and schedule commitments
  • Responsible for ensuring product integrity is maintained and a high level of engineering performance is achieved, by ensuring sound engineering principles are adhered to
  • Ensure all project staff with safety responsibilities are authorised persons who are suitably competent, qualified and experienced to implement safety procedures, review and authorise safety work products as appropriate
  • Ensure common engineering processes employed within program are compliant with approved company processes and project specific procedures, including LCM and BMS
  • Support / execute Design Reviews (DR) and Technical Bid Reviews (TBR) for additional program/projects
  • Contribute to and attend phase reviews and contract reviews
  • DCA responsibility and the requirement to balance the triangle between Cost, Schedule and
  • Quality, in conjunction with the PEM PM and STA
  • Involves exercise of engineering judgement within broad and often undefined parameters in overall interests of the overall Line of Business / Programme, in full cognisance of likely effect on business as a whole

About YOU

  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain NV1
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering is considered essential
  • Demonstrated Team Leadership experience with substantial formal Engineering experience is considered essential
  • Working Knowledge of Defence project environments is considered advantageous
  • Demonstrated experience in Team Leadership and Team Management of a mid-large sized project (15+ people) is considered desirable
