About the opportunity

Southern Cross University's Office of Vice President (Students) and Registrar is seeking a Learning Advisor to join our team and provide invaluable guidance and support to students throughout their learning journey.

As part of the Study Well team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by contributing to the provision of programs and services that promote student engagement, retention, and learning. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Provide tailored academic support through individual consultations, workshops, and peer-led programs, helping students develop essential skills in academic writing, critical thinking, and assessment preparation. The ability to support STEM-related problem solving is desirable but not essential.
  • Design and deliver evidence-based learning support initiatives, both online and face-to-face, that enhance academic outcomes for students who are at risk due to learning difficulties, disabilities, or stress and anxiety.
  • Collaborate with academic staff, student services, and equity teams to identify students in need of additional support early, and contribute to strategies that promote retention, engagement, and academic resilience.
  • Develop and maintain inclusive, accessible learning resources that cater to a range of learning styles and address barriers to academic success.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of learning support interventions on student performance, contributing insights and data to inform continuous improvement of student support services.
About you

You will be passionate about supporting student learning and will bring relevant experience with a background using learning analytics, assessment tools and approaches to inform your practice and drive student success. More specifically, you will have:

  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Mathematics, Numeracy (secondary teaching), or closely related disciplines, combined with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or professional experience
  • Proven ability to use learning analytics, assessment tools, and other data-informed approaches to identify students learning needs, inform referral pathway, and support targeted learning design and intervention strategies
  • Demonstrate experience in designing and delivering effective learning development programs and unit-embedded academic support resources within a higher education setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and build productive relationships with academic and professional staff
  • A strong student-centred mindset, evidenced by a commitment to enhancing the student experience, improving academic outcomes, and supporting graduate success
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, equity, cultural diversity, and inclusive practices along with knowledge of relevant workplace health and safety (WHS) principles
Salary and benefits

Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work models, generous parental and carer's leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. This position is:

  • Full-time fixed term (8 Months)
  • Located at either Gold Coast, QLD 4225, or Lismore, NSW 2480.
  • HEW 6. The base salary ranges from $92,716 - $101,691 per annum, plus 17% employer's contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $118,978.
