AO5 Media Advisor – State Government Department

Brisbane | Hybrid Working | Contract until 9 January 2026

The Opportunity Public Sector People are partnering with a State Government Department to recruit a temporary AO5 Media Advisor.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a communications professional to contribute to high-impact public initiatives, working across proactive campaigns, media relations, and strategic communication projects.

You'll join a supportive team environment where collaboration and creativity are encouraged, with guidance from experienced leaders in the communications space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic media, risk, and issues management advice, including drafting media releases and responses.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver proactive and reactive media strategies and campaigns suited to a range of audiences.
  • Prepare speeches, presentations, and briefing materials for senior executives.
  • Develop and implement media and communication plans, including issues and crisis management.
  • Contribute to social media planning and content development, ensuring alignment with best practice.
  • Coordinate and deliver media events and activities.
  • Record and analyse media activity, including regular monitoring and reporting.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the department to achieve communication objectives.

About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in media relations, communications, or journalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing issues and working in a fast-paced media environment.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • A collaborative, team-focused approach and commitment to public service values.
  • Prior government or public sector experience (highly regarded).
