Primary objective
Assist in the maintenance, development and support of the Mining and Energy Divisions databases and specialist business
systems.
Context statement
As part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, this role liaises closely with users of the key business systems in the Mining
and Energy Divisions. The role sits within the Business Systems Unit, which develops, manages and supports these systems.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of the Department's existing business systems and information
services.
2. Support the capture, validation, continual improvement and monitoring of digital data utilised in the Department's
databases and business systems.
3. Analyse existing and new business systems and processes to identify possible improvement pathways.
4. Develop training materials and provide training and support to users of the Department's business systems.
5. Produce database and application performance reports to support the tracking of service delivery requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in the maintenance, development and support of textual and spatial business systems and databases.
2. Demonstrated ability to interrogate Oracle and SQL Server database systems, interpret technical matters, learn new
software systems and to have an analytical approach to problem solving.
3. A good knowledge of the management, use and support requirements of current desktop platforms and network
applications.
4. Ability to develop and deliver training programs for digital information systems.
5. A high level of communication skills, both written and oral.
6. Work effectively within a team environment and have the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Appropriate tertiary qualifications in computing, drafting or associated disciplines.
2. Knowledge of and good understanding of mining and energy industries and related regulatory legislation.
