This is your opportunity to play a key role in strengthening local decision-making and governance across one of Australia's most unique and culturally rich regions.

About the Role

The Community Governance Coordinator is responsible for building and supporting strong governance practices across the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group.

The initial focus of the role will be to work with boards and supporting staff of the entities based in each of the 11 communities to help them understand and meet their obligations under Australian law. Over time, the position will play a strategic role in ensuring that governance across the Group is fit-for-purpose in the Ngaanyatjarra context and empowers Yarnangu to make decisions that matter most at the community level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a model of governance practice support for entities across the Group to opt in to.
  • Where entities opt in:

  • Build governance capacity across boards and staff.

  • Facilitate collaboration and mutual understanding between boards and supporting staff.
  • Coordinate training that is practical, fit-for-purpose, and culturally appropriate.
  • Support preparation for and facilitation of effective board meetings.
  • Support board recruitment, induction, development, and succession planning.
  • Develop adaptable governance policies and procedures.
  • Assist entities in their engagement with external regulators and governance bodies.
  • Oversee the development of effective file and record systems to support continuity and corporate knowledge retention.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Group's leadership on governance matters and opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in governance practice.
