Perth, Western Australia City of Bayswater Full time $99,949 per year

Permanent, Full-Time

About us

At the City of Bayswater, we believe that great communities are built by people who care. That's why we're guided by strong values, shared purpose, and a real passion for creating meaningful change. We prioritise sustainability, community wellbeing, and welcoming places where everyone can thrive. As an employer, we're committed to a culture that values inclusion, balance, and personal growth. Whether you're starting your journey or building on experience, we offer the chance to develop your skills, contribute meaningfully to the community, and help shape the future of a vibrant and evolving community.

About the Position

We are looking for a full-time, permanent Governance Advisor to join our Governance and Strategy team. The governance function is structured to promote teamwork, with two Advisors and a Coordinator sharing and rotating duties to maximise efficiency and provide flexible support where it's needed most.

In this role, you'll be responsible for coordinating all aspects of Council and Committee meetings—from preparing agendas, minutes, and reports to managing public participation and supporting elected members. You'll provide advice on legislative compliance and governance best practices, assist with local law reviews and ward boundary changes, and contribute to key projects including elections, policy development, and governance reform. You'll also manage governance systems, respond to Freedom of Information requests, maintain statutory registers, and support staff training.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team that plays a central role in supporting good governance, transparency, and decision-making across the organisation. If you thrive on detail, value strong governance, and enjoy variety in your work, we'd love to hear from you.

About you

You're a detail-oriented governance professional with experience in local government, confident in interpreting legislation and providing clear, practical advice on Council processes. With strong writing skills and a highly organised approach, you deliver accurate, high-quality work in fast-paced environments. Known for your collaborative and professional manner, you build strong relationships with colleagues, elected members, and stakeholders. You're tech-savvy, adaptable to change, and always looking for ways to improve systems and support others. Ethical, respectful, and committed to continuous learning, you bring a positive and proactive attitude to your work.

Applicants must have a relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Political Science, Commerce, or another discipline with a strong research and analytical focus. Alternatively, equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.

What we offer
