Position Overview
The position involves interacting with both internal and external stakeholders which includes suppliers, sub-contractors, service providers and internal staff to ensure prices established cover cost as well as maintain the company's margin expectations. This includes the referencing and utilisation of up-to-date product and pricing information to achieve best value for price. To be successful in this role you should have an analytical mind with the ability to negotiate and ensure purchase agreements comply with company standards. This position may also involve limited work-related travel or work at other sites. Additionally, work outside of ordinary hours of work may be required to meet business need.
- Review project documentation and price in preparation for a contract submission.
- Ensure contract submission documentation is in sync with relation to contract proposal, plans and price. Advise required stakeholders to modify documents to clearly define scope of works included and ensure contract submission needs are met.
- Review and advise on alternative solutions for product and services used in relation to cost efficiency and suitability to the business.
- Obtain quotes and review conditions from suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with the project's requirements.
- Utilise previous projects to compare budgetary expectations.
- Monitor cost centre budgets during the production estimating phase to ensure overruns are controlled.
- Ensure that the documentation utilized for sales estimation purpose is update to date
- Review quotes and ensure that amounts and scope of works is still current in accordance with contract conditions.
- Maintaining good supplier relations and assisting with the negotiating of contracts.
- Assist with the development and improvement of estimating processes, tools & techniques.
- Provide sales cost centre budgets for entry into the company's accounting database.
- Complete pricing of requested variations.
Skills & Experience
- Certificate IV in Construction or equivalent tertiary qualification.
- Minimum 5 years industry experience within the residential construction sector within an estimating or similar role.
- Understanding contractual documents, building schedules, specifications and plans critical.
- Understanding of MS Office suite including a moderate comprehension of MS Excel.
- Understanding of estimation software systems, for example DataBuild or Buildsoft.
- Excellent numeracy skills within the measurement, quantification, and percentage disciplines
