The Optical Company is looking for an Operations Manager for NSW to be responsible for day-to-day ops, commercial performance and team leadership of our optical retail stores in NSW (+ 5 stores in Townsville, QLD). This position is based in our Support Office in Surry Hills and is a key member of our leadership team

About the Business

The Optical Company is the Eyes & Ears Division of one of Australia's largest allied health care businesses, Healthia . We have more than 50 optical stores and 3 audiology clinics within the broader Healthia Group consisting of 400+ locations across optometry, audiology, podiatry, and physiotherapy.

About the Role

This position will report to the General Manager- Eyes & Ears Division, leading operations for our NSW stores, clustered in Sydney and the Newcastle/Hunter region, as well as 5 stores in and around Townsville (QLD). This role ensures consistent delivery of operational standards, exceptional customer experience, and financial targets across the region through effective leadership and strong commercial acumen.

The Operations Manager (NSW) will:

  • Build and retain a high performing and engaged team, working closely with Store Teams, Professional Services and People and Culture Teams to recruit, develop and retain talented people
  • Drive team engagement, capability and performance to achieve KPIs including budgets and NPS/customer engagement scores, meet operational and merchandising standards, and deliver on our purpose of improving our customers' vision and confidence
  • Work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to implement strategic initiatives and special projects, and identify and address opportunities and challenges within the business
  • Seek out opportunities for growth and operational improvement by analysing performance data, in-store activity and maintaining market awareness, partnering with the Marketing and Product teams to identify trends and improvement opportunities

About You

You will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in hands-on operations/management roles, ideally in a retail healthcare setting (optical experience will be highly regarded), with experience working in stores and also managing stores across a geographically dispersed area.

Your leadership skills will be second-to-none, you will have experience with building and retaining successful teams, and you will be focused on team and customer engagement.

You'll need to be an adept and pragmatic problem-solver, and comfortable with regular travel to stores in regional and metropolitan areas of NSW and QLD (Townsville).
