About Us
NATOC is a proud alliance of New South Wales Aboriginal tourism operators, dedicated to supporting and advocating for emerging and established Aboriginal-owned businesses that offer experiences celebrating and sharing the unique Aboriginal cultures of our state.
Last year alone, over 814,000 international and domestic overnight visitors immersed themselves in an Aboriginal tourism experience during their stay. We are committed to supporting the thriving NSW Aboriginal tourism sector by collaborating with key industry partners and government agencies to create more pathways for visitors to connect with, understand and experience some of the world's oldest living cultures.
About the role
We seek a dynamic, culturally grounded Executive Officer to shape NATOC's next phase. In this exciting role, you will build NATOC's operational arm, work closely with the Board to drive our growth strategy, and amplify Aboriginal voices and enterprises in tourism. Working closely with the Chairperson, you will:
Work closely with the Board to bring NATOC's cultural and business goals to life.
Support the creation of strategies, policies, and procedures that realise NATOC's vision.
Connect and support our members while expanding our membership to better represent the Aboriginal tourism industry.
Forge strong partnerships with community groups, government bodies, and industry stakeholders.
Oversee NATOC's core operations – including finance, IT – to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
Represent NATOC in communications and at events to amplify our collective voice.
About you
This is an Aboriginal-identified role under Section 14 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. We seek an Aboriginal person who brings cultural integrity and deep respect for Country.
Key Requirements
- Demonstrated experience engaging Aboriginal stakeholders on land and cultural issues.
Minimum 8+ years of experience engaging Aboriginal stakeholders on land and cultural issues.
Demonstrated ability to work with Boards of Directors and apply high-level organisational governance.
Minimum 1-2 years of Board governance experience required.
Strong skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication.
Confidently engage senior stakeholders across government, community, and industry sectors.
Practical experience managing finances and information technology in a small organisation.
Financial reporting experience required for managing organisational finances.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Hold a valid, unrestricted Class C driver's license.
Desirable
Understand of quality assurance frameworks.
Knowledge of the tourism industry, especially government and industry networks.
Familiar with Aboriginal tourism development issues, opportunities, and trends.
Experience working with or within membership-based organisations, including stakeholder engagement and member services.
