
Community Engagement Support Officer

Are you passionate about working with communities to make a real difference? We are seeking a motivated and culturally aware Community Engagement Officer (Level 3) to join our client's team in Port Hedland and help strengthen relationships between local government and the community, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This role is offered on a 6-8 week temporary assignment.
About the Role
This position plays a key role in delivering inclusive and meaningful engagement with a diverse community. You will be responsible for supporting and coordinating small-scale projects, developing community consultation activities, and ensuring that community voices especially those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are heard and considered in service planning and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and delivering community engagement activities across the region.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and individuals.
- Support and coordinate small projects in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of marketing and communications materials to support community consultation.
- Prepare reports, summaries and feedback to inform decision-making within the department.
- Ensure engagement practices are inclusive, culturally appropriate, and aligned with local government frameworks.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Experience working in or with local government, ideally in a community engagement, marketing, or community services role.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a variety of audiences.
- Ability to coordinate small projects and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of community consultation principles and practices.
- A team-oriented attitude with the flexibility to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Qualifications in Community Services, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Understanding of local government frameworks and consultation requirements.
