Our Business
Infrastructure Services (ISG) brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities.

Our Branch
Asphalt and Aggregates oversees the management of Council's quarries and road surfacing operations, including the laying and repair of asphalt pavements, minor pothole repairs and road line marking. The branch consists of three core business units: Road Resurfacing, Asphalt Production and Quarries.

The Role
The Quarries Senior Health and Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring Brisbane City Council's quarry operations at Bracalba, Mount Coot-tha, and Pine Mountain Depot are safe, compliant, and efficient. This position provides expert advice and hands-on support to Quarry Managers and operational teams, focusing on the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of WH&S systems. The role is responsible for conducting audits, supporting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and ensuring all safety documentation and training records are accurate and up to date.

Working within the Infrastructure Services branch, the officer collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, including safety committees and other Council teams, to uphold Council's Zero Harm principles and legislative obligations. The role demands strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare reports, lead safety initiatives, and represent the quarries in broader safety forums. It's a dynamic opportunity for someone passionate about workplace health and safety and committed to fostering a proactive safety culture across high-impact operational environments.

To be successful you will have:

  • proven experience developing and maintaining WH&S systems in quarry or similar operational environments
  • strong knowledge of relevant safety legislation, including Mining & Quarrying Safety & Health Act and Regulations
  • demonstrated ability to conduct audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
  • excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare reports and deliver safety training
  • proficiency in systems such as SAP, IMS, CGR, and Microsoft Office tools.
