The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled
Automation Technical Specialist
to join our team supporting the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) within the Australian Defence environment. This is a hands-on technical role focused on developing and implementing build automation tools to streamline the build, configuration, and deployment of deployable ICT nodes for the Land Combat System Support Environment.
You will work as part of a small, results-oriented team, contributing to the design and development of automation toolsets, supporting technical documentation, and providing subject matter expertise for upgrades and capability expansion. The role also involves liaising with technical SMEs, providing limited training, and enforcing configuration management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement build automation tools to support the build, configuration, and deployment of deployable ICT nodes
- Contribute to DevSecOps capability via scripting, automation, and orchestration (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, GitLab, Kubernetes)
- Design and implement disaster recovery solutions leveraging VMware suite of products
- Produce and maintain technical documentation for automation tools and system components
- Liaise with technical SMEs and Defence stakeholders to ensure effective integration and support
- Provide limited training to users on the environment as required
- Enforce configuration management and contribute to technical risk management and project planning
- Support the ongoing upgrade and capability expansion of the Land Combat Systems Support Environment
What You'll Need
- Proven experience with PowerShell, Ansible, and associated scripting languages/technologies
- Strong background in DevSecOps toolsets and methodologies (including GitLab, container workloads/Kubernetes)
- Experience with Microsoft and Linux operating systems and enterprise applications
- Proficiency with VMware datacentre products
- Ability to work on-site in Canberra and meet security clearance requirements
- Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
