As an Academic Project Officer at Mercy Perinatal, you'll play a vital role in supporting the operational and governance functions of a dynamic research team. You will have the opportunity to coordinate data access applications, manage ethics submissions, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements, all while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. This position offers you the chance to contribute significantly to innovative research projects aimed at improving pregnancy diagnostics and therapeutics.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support Project Coordination: Interface with the University, Hospital, and research collaborators to achieve academic objectives.
- Manage Applications and Compliance: Prepare and submit applications for data access and research ethics, ensuring compliance with guidelines.
- Facilitate Governance Processes: Act as secretary for the governance committee, supporting meetings and follow-up actions.
- Provide Administrative Support: Handle document management, correspondence, and compliance records, and coordinate corporate services activities.

You will have exceptional organisational and communication skills, experience in project coordination, and a keen attention to detail, enabling you to manage competing deadlines effectively in a dynamic research environment.
You may also:
- Possess excellent written communication and document preparation skills.
- Have strong organisational and project coordination abilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of research ethics and data governance frameworks.
- Be highly proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of learning in-house database systems.
- Have experience with PowerPoint and Canva for creating figures in grant applications.

Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health
The University Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health is responsible for teaching Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatal Paediatrics, to MD medical students. Currently, each year approximately 330 medical students spend 6 weeks (across 6 rotations) attached to the Department during the third year of their medical course. In addition, there are graduate research students pursuing full-time or part-time research through the Department. These include Honours, Master of Biomedical Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy students. In Quarter 1 of 2024, there were approximately 38 graduate research students enrolled in the Department undertaking their PhD, including 4 under examination.
