Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager, Accounting plays a critical role in supporting the efficient and accurate operation of the Sydney office's financial and accounting functions at our client's company. This position is responsible for the execution of a diverse range of accounting and payroll tasks, ensuring compliance with company policies and Australian regulations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Manager, Finance & Administration/General Manager and Head Office to facilitate effective financial communication and coordination. This role requires a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented individual with a strong accounting background, capable of managing multiple responsibilities with precision and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting, Financial & Payroll Operations

  • Execute and manage daily accounting tasks, including data entry, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance in accordance with AU GAAP.
  • Process and manage employee expense claims, ensuring compliance with company policies and local regulations.
  • Oversee and process Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions, including invoice processing, payment tracking, ledger reconciliation, and timely collection of receivables.
  • Support the end-to-end payroll process, including data preparation for employee payroll, superannuation contributions, and tax deductions, ensuring compliance with Australian regulation
  • Perform calculations for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) and assist with other tax-related calculations as directed by the Manager, Finance & Administration/General Manager.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for daily banking activities, including executing and reconciling bank transfers, foreign exchange transactions, and monitoring cash flow.
  • Process and reconcile credit card transactions and manage data exchange with credit card companies.
  • Prepare and exchange financial data, reports, and documentation with Head Office and external accounting firms as required by the Manager, Finance & Administration/General Manager.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for all accounting and financial inquiries from Head Office, ensuring timely and accurate information flow under the guidance of the Manager, Finance & Administration/General Manager.
  • Support the Manager, Finance & Administration/General Manager in maintaining robust internal controls and supporting JSOX compliance efforts if required.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in an accounting or finance support role, preferably within a corporate environment or a Japanese-affiliated company.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and financial processes.
  • Experience with payroll processing and Australian tax regulations (e.g., FBT, Superannuation, PAYG) is highly regarded.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and prioritization abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is essential. Experience with accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently, manage responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment under general supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with head offices or international counterparts is a significant advantage.
  • A proactive attitude and problem-solving mindset.
  • Japanese language skills (business proficiency) are highly desirable to ensure smooth communication with senior local management and Head Office.
