The TRU plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and resilience of minor and major transport corridors through close collaboration with emergency services and road authorities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Traffic Response Officer (TRO), you will respond to a wide variety of planned and unplanned incidents. Working in high-risk, fast-paced environments, you will help protect motorists, reduce congestion, and restore safe and orderly road operations as quickly and professionally as possible. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Respond rapidly to road related incidents and hazards such as roadway traffic crashes, disabled vehicles, hazardous debris, and adverse weather impacts.
Conduct dynamic scene assessments and implement appropriate traffic management strategies to ensure the safety of road users and emergency responders while reducing the risk of secondary incidents.
Coordinate effectively with emergency services and road authorities to support integrated, multi-agency responses.
Provide practical assistance to motorists, including vehicle relocations and basic roadside troubleshooting.
Conduct proactive network patrols to identify and mitigate emerging road hazards.
Maintain clear, concise, and timely communication with Traffic Management Centres via radio and digital platforms.
Uphold the highest standards of operational safety, professionalism, and public engagement.
About You
We are seeking reliable, safety-focused professionals with a strong operational mindset and the ability to remain composed in complex and high-pressure environments. You will demonstrate:
A current and valid Open MR class driver's licence (or higher) with a clean five-year driving history.
A valid White Card (Construction Induction).
The ability to work on a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
Exceptional situational awareness and sound decision-making under pressure.
Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
Basic mechanical or vehicle troubleshooting ability.
Confidence operating in high-risk roadside environments.
Computer literate and able to use smart phones, tablets, and computer systems
Prior emergency services experience is advantageous but not essential.
Pre-Employment Checks: Successful candidates will undergo a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol screening, provide a five-year diving history and complete a criminal history check.
