About the Role:
The ANMF (SA Branch) is seeking an experienced Accountant to join the Finance team. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality financial and payroll services, including management and statutory reporting, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and compliance with accounting standards, legislation, industrial awards and employee agreements. The position provides accounting advice and support to internal departments, guidance to finance team members, and professional assistance to the Head of Corporate Operations. It also involves accurate and efficient payroll processing, interpretation of employment agreements, and contributing to member recruitment and retention by ensuring reliable and responsive financial operations. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and qualifications in accounting, business, or a related field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day accounting tasks including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial data analysis
- Record financial transactions accurately and in compliance with accounting standards and legislation
- Support the Head of Corporate Operations with evolving Australian Accounting Standards, technical papers, and financial reporting
- Assist with month-end close, management reports, annual financial statements, budgets, and quarterly cash flow statements
- Manage ANMFSA assets, capital works expenditure, and purchasing/payables including invoice approvals and expenditure review
- Provide accounting support to Union Legal SA team including LEAP financial management, Law Society audit, and advice
- Ensure financial controls are effective and assist in improving business systems and processes
- Prepare and lodge periodic returns and ensure compliance with taxation requirements including FBT and GST
- Act as finance business partner to selected departments, providing insights, assisting with budgeting, and resolving issues
- Process fortnightly payroll including entitlements, allowances, and conditions under ANMF agreements and awards
- Generate payroll and compliance reports (PAYG, superannuation, Workcover, BAS) and ensure timely submissions
- Work closely with the Payroll Coordinator and assist as a contact point for payroll queries, providing accurate advice on pay, allowances, leave, and deductions
- Administer the ANMFSA online banking system and maintain relationships with banking providers
- Provide finance system support, guidance to team members, and relieve staff in accounts payable/receivable as required
- Undertake other duties as directed and participate in training and development through the ANMFSA Capability Reflection and Development Program
About You:
We are seeking an organised and committed professional who brings:
- Degree in Commerce, Business or Accounting, with CA/CPA qualification (or working towards)
- 3–5 years' experience in financial accounting and reporting within corporate or not-for-profit environments
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, tax legislation, FBT and GST
- Proven experience with reconciliations, general ledger, journals, and monthly accounting processes
- Sound understanding of budgeting principles and practices
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outputs within strict deadlines, with strong organisational and time management skills
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel skills
- Commitment to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional integrity
- DHS/DCSI Working with Children Check, General Employment Probity Check (or ability to obtain) and current Driver's Licence
- Experience with integrated accounting systems (MYOB, Xero)
- Payroll experience within an integrated financial accounting system
- Understanding of industrial awards
