- $85,415 to $96,138 pro rata (Dep on skills + experience) + 12% superannuation
About the role
The Children and Young People Librarian sits within the Creative City Branch and offers an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality library services, programs and literacy initiatives for children, young people, families and the broader community.
This role plays a key part in strengthening Melbourne's creative and learning culture, supporting equitable access to information, and contributing to the strategic goals of the City of Melbourne.
Working as part of the City of Melbourne Libraries team, this role is central to creating engaging programs that embed connected learning principles, developing collections tailored to young audiences, and fostering community partnerships that enhance learning and literacy outcomes.

- Provide welcoming, socially inclusive and high-level customer service to children, young people, families and the community.
- Build partnerships with internal teams and community stakeholders to strengthen engagement and access
- Support innovation and best practice by applying connected learning principles to library programming.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate literacy and learning programs and services tailored to children and young people

About you
You are an enthusiastic library professional who thrives on engaging children, young people and families through creative, literacy and learning opportunities. You bring energy, innovation and collaboration to everything you do.
You may also be:
- Experienced in delivering high-quality, child- and youth-focused literacy programs in a public library setting.
- Skilled in using and troubleshooting digital resources, technology and online platforms to support library users.
What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria
- Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), or a relevant qualification and/or 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience delivering children and young people's literacy programs and services in a public library.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong digital literacy, with the ability to support others in using online resources, library technology and emerging tools.
- Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service and engage effectively with diverse audiences.
