About the opportunity

Blacktown City is experiencing rapid growth and development. With this comes an exciting role in our Greenspace Services Section - Council's largest business unit, to help increase our Urban Tree Canopy for our community.

Are you a professional and experienced horticulturalist with a background in project management, particularly in tree planting projects? Would you like to be part of a team that delivers environmental benefits to the community?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Greenspace Projects Officer to join our Infrastructure team on a term contract, full-time basis for up to 12 months.

This role focuses on managing a range of tree planting projects, liaising with both internal and external stakeholders, and providing advice and support to the Coordinator Greenspace Infrastructure.

Key duties include:

• Overseeing the planting of trees and shrubs within streets, reserves, and other public areas
• Supervising the establishment and maintenance of newly planted trees
• Ensuring best practices are followed for tree planting and establishment programs
• Providing expert advice to the community, staff, and Council in relation to tree planting matters
• Assisting the Coordinator Greenspace Infrastructure with monthly status reports on program performance and budget allocation.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

• Diploma qualification in project management and horticulture or a similar discipline
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role
• Current class C driver's licence
• Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations
• Computer literate
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service
• Ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment
• WorkCover Approved WHS General Induction for Construction Work in NSW.

Desirable:

• Diploma qualification in arboriculture
• Demonstrated experience utilizing Esri's ArcGIS platform.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.

• Entry level for this position starts at $1,679.52 per week
• 35-hour working week
• Car allowance
