This Federal Government Agency shapes how Australia funds hospitals and aged care. They are seeking an EL1 Classifications Officer to join their team for a 12-month contract. They create classification systems that link patient types and resources into meaningful codes, ensuring fair and transparent funding across the health and aged care sectors.

Your new role

As a Classification Manager, you'll lead projects that design and maintain classification systems used to fund public hospitals and aged care services. You'll work across areas like acute care, mental health, emergency departments, aged care, and teaching/training/research.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Collect and analyse data to understand service costs
  • Translate complex analysis into clear advice for stakeholders
  • Advise on classification changes and inclusions
  • Prepare policy papers and executive briefings
  • Identify risks and unintended consequences
  • Drafting reports, papers, and correspondence for senior leadership and advisory groups
  • Managing procurement processes and contracts
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contributing to strategic planning and team leadership
  • Monitoring policy and legislative changes that impact your work area

What you'll need to succeed

  • Senior level stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex information for decision-makers
  • Strategic thinking and structured problem-solving
  • Clinical background is highly regarded and knowledge of health policy and health information management.
  • Qualifications such as MBA, Master of Health Administration, or health system experience are a plus.
  • Experience in program or project management.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • You must be an Australian citizen.
