SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation.

SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator.

About the team

The Operational Practice Team is a multidisciplinary team made up of a combination of Inspectors, Project/Policy Officers and administrative staff that work collaboratively to:

  • Improve regulatory processes and practice
  • Implement major reforms across SafeWork, including translating policy changes into operational practice that makes sense
  • Collaborate nationally on best WHS practice with other WHS Regulators
  • Maintain the SW Knowledge Bank, WHS Digital Operations Manual, Codes of Practice and various registers including exemptions, legislative changes and issues

Provide support and secretariat services to the:

  • WHSDOM Review Working Group (Chair)
  • Policy and Regulatory Officers Community of Practice (Chair)
  • National Committees (WHS Related)
  • SafeWork NSW Regulatory Practice Oversight Committee (RPOC)

Review of Pre WHS Codes

As a Project Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely in a project team facilitating and supporting the review and update of WHS Codes of Practice
  • Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation, and issues management to ensure deliverables are met
  • Providing Secretariat support to facilitate the effective and efficient management of meetings and actions
  • Coordinating and analysing feedback and submissions from stakeholders
  • Maintaining governance processes and accurate records, ensuring current and relevant information is available and relevant policies, procedures, confidentiality, and privacy requirements are met
  • Providing project support to deliver internal and external communications and contributing to business-critical services

About you

  • Be a motivated self-starter who is flexible, adaptable to changing priorities, capable of working independently and without direction at times
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, discretion and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated experience delivering quality outputs with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build trusted business relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Having an understanding of the principles of Policy implementation and maintenance.
  • High level of skills across a range of Microsoft 365 applications, experience with SharePoint and other related programs an advantage
  • Demonstrated commitment to service delivery seeking opportunities of improvement with the customer at the heart
