Director of Sales & Marketing
to join our guidance team on a full-time basis. This pivotal role leads the Sales, Events, Reservations, and Marketing functions, driving the hotel's commercial success and positioning our property as the luxury destination in Melbourne. With full accountability for topline revenue performance, the Director will inspire a high-performing team, cultivate long-term client relationships, and implement innovative strategies that reflect the brand's legendary service and commitment to excellence.

JOB SUMMARY
Functions as the leader of the property's sales, event planning and marketing department and responsible for the topline revenue of the hotel. Manages the property's reactive and proactive sales efforts, event planning, reservations department, public relations, marketing communications and overall strategic direction. Provides day to day leadership to associates to achieve property sales objectives with overall responsibility for achieving booking goals and property revenues. Implements the brand's service strategy and applicable brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales and events process and focuses on building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of the hotel's' sales objectives. Evaluates the property's participation in the various sales channels (e.g., Area Sales, Group Sales within the Sales Office, electronic lead channels, etc.) and develops strong working relationships to proactively position and market the property. Manages the marketing budget to enable development of property specific campaigns, promotions and collateral to drive revenue and meet property objectives. Interfaces with regional marketing communications for regional and national promotions pull through. Develops and implements property–wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand's target customer profile and property associates and provides a return on investment to the owner and Marriott International.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Demonstrated leadership experience in sales, marketing, events and reservation in a luxury hotel environment.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, with proven success in driving revenue and market share.
- Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Track record of building high-performing teams and fostering customer relationships.
- Tertiary Education in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or related field.
- Hotel sales experience with progressive career growth.
- Prior experience in a Director-level sales or marketing leadership role within the luxury hotel industry.
Managing Sales Activities
- Manages development of strategic account plans for key demand generators.
- Leads the property's proactive and reactive sales efforts.
- Works with Regional Marketing Communications to develop marketing activities.
- Provides market and customer intelligence to adjust sales strategies.
- Reviews STAR and competitive reports to track hotel market position.
- Researches competitor sales strategies to increase occupancy, RevPAR, and market share.
- Attends sales strategy meetings and provides input on weekly and overall plans.
- Suggests innovative marketing ideas and deployment strategies.
- Supports participation and account deployment with Area Sales and Group Sales.
- Serves as sales contact for General Manager, property leadership, and sales teams.
- Acts as customer advocate and authority on sales processes and contracts.
- Functions as property liaison with Sales, Revenue, Events, Marketing, and other departments.
- Participates in sales calls with Sales, Events, and Marketing to acquire/close business.
- Practices Ritz-Carlton Service Values, Credo, and Employee Promise.
Strategy and Planning – Marketing Communications
- Develops an annual Marketing Communications plan with defined goals and budgets, focusing on maximizing value from digital and traditional media.
- Prepares working plans and ensures the communications team is fully briefed on objectives and progress.
- Coordinates strategic planning and execution of all marketing communications activities.
- Reviews and measures effectiveness of campaigns regularly, adjusting plans as needed.
- Oversees design agency operations to ensure alignment with brand guidelines and templates.
- Monitors competitor hotel marketing and industry trends, sharing key learnings with leadership.
- Updates executive committee on program status, ensuring follow-through and property buy-in.
- Determines and manages budgets to support communication initiatives.
- Ensures photography is regionally approved, current, and covers all room types, public areas, and outlets; plans re-shoots with regional approval as required.
- Ensures creative messaging and media activities are consistent with brand direction and voice.
- Collaborates with cluster and regional Marketing, Digital, and eCommerce teams for approvals on key projects.
Digital Marketing, Social Media & Public Relations
- Develops and executes the property's digital marketing plan in partnership with regional eCommerce and Sales/Revenue teams, ensuring alignment with the annual Marketing Communications Plan.
- Leads on-property marketing teams, agencies, and eCommerce partners to deliver integrated campaigns across digital, social, and traditional media.
- Oversees social media strategy, including content calendars, campaign execution, monitoring, reporting, and crisis management protocols.
- Designs and implements PR strategies to secure impactful media coverage, strengthen F&B positioning, and enhance the hotel's overall image.
- Serves as hotel spokesperson, managing media relationships, maintaining key contacts, and coordinating with regional PR teams for approvals, press events, and crisis communications.
