Position Information

Dalmeny Public School is a large school in Prestons, Southwest Sydney with a school enrolment of 670 students. Staff, students, and the community work together to promote high-quality teaching and learning experiences in a safe, respectful and supportive framework. Our school is supported by a diverse and vibrant multicultural community. Our community has 81 different countries of birth registered and 61 different language background groups recorded. 2.6% of students identify as Aboriginal and are provided with learning and enrichment activities through whole-school initiatives such as NAIDOC and the school's Koori Club.

Our parents, students and staff embrace our Special Education Unit which consists of seven classes–one IO class, two IO/Autism classes, three Multi Categorical classes and an Autism class. Our school is staffed by one Principal, two Deputy Principals, one Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support, four mainstream Assistant Principals, one Assistant Principal Special Education and two Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction.

Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students K-6 with Autism, mild and moderate intellectual disabilities, including those with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum through personalised learning and support plans to improve outcomes for students with diverse learning needs, aligned with the Disability Standards for Education, Aboriginal Education Policy, and English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) Framework.
  • Evidence of outstanding flexible classroom behaviour management and adaptive strategies which enhance student engagement and the development of social skills, including the use of early intervention techniques.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as a dynamic member of the support unit team, engaging with school learning support officers, parents, carers, teachers, external agencies and the wider community.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
