SUMMARY

Interim Senior Legal Counsel role leading corporate compliance and privacy programs across APAC, working with senior leadership on regulatory, governance and investigative matters.  3 to 6-month interim role.

A well-known FMCG company headquartered in Sydney with operations throughout APAC.

THE ROLE
  • You will work with the General Counsel to deliver legal and compliance support across business divisions, ensuring regulatory obligations are met. This interim full-time role is based in the Sydney office and offers flexible work options.
  • Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial and regulatory matters.
  • Oversee the corporate compliance program, identifying, assessing and mitigating regulatory risks.
  • Act as Privacy Officer, managing privacy programs and handling privacy complaints or concerns.
  • Conducted or oversaw compliance investigations.
  • Review and improve policies, processes and frameworks to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and organisational standards.
  • Support the Board and senior management in governance, compliance and risk management.
ABOUT YOU
  • You are an experienced corporate law, compliance, and privacy professional. You can work independently in a small legal team and manage complex regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions. You balance legal risk with commercial objectives and effectively engage with senior stakeholders, boards, and regulators.
  • Proven experience as Legal Counsel, Compliance Officer and/or Privacy Officer, ideally with a top-tier private practice background
  • Strong knowledge of corporate law, regulatory compliance frameworks, and privacy obligations
  • Minimum 10 years' post-qualification experience with a current practising certificate
  • FMCG experience is useful but not essential, as is exposure to APAC markets.
  • Ability to develop and implement proactive legal and compliance strategies
  • High professional ethics, sound judgement, and analytical capability
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and build trust across all organisational levels
