About the Role

Working across Casey & Dandenong Hospitals, We are seeking a dynamic and experienced senior clinician to lead the Engage Team, supporting individuals presenting to the Casey and Dandenong Emergency Departments with complex psychosocial and mental health needs. This is a full-time, ongoing position and open to Social Workers.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with ED, Mental Health Program, and Social Work leadership to align services with clinical demand and industrial agreements.
  • Foster strong multidisciplinary relationships and promote a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
  • Lead development of clinical systems and ensure adherence to governance and scope of practice standards.
  • Offer senior decision-making support and engage with professional leads and stakeholders.
  • Oversee outreach services post-discharge and facilitate community linkages.
  • Drive quality improvement, policy development, and model of care reviews.

About Us

The Casey and Dandenong Engage Team is a multidisciplinary group based in the Emergency Departments of Casey and Dandenong Hospitals. Led by a Social Worker/Manager, the team includes Social Workers, Lived Experience Workers, and a Mental Health/AOD Nurse.

We provide crisis intervention, psychosocial assessments, and discharge planning for patients with acute mental health issues and complex social stressors such as family violence, homelessness, disability, and risky behaviors. Our approach integrates psychosocial risk assessment, AOD support, and lived experience insights, with an outreach component to support patients beyond the ED setting.

About You

You are an experienced and skilled Social Worker with a minimum of 7 years in the field, including substantial experience in public mental health and ideally emergency department settings. With strong working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, you will be well-versed in applying legislation and guidelines in practice.

Along with the above, you will have:

  • Proven leadership and change management capabilities to enhance service access and delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship building.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across interdisciplinary teams and diverse service settings.
  • A commitment to person-centred care, innovation, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong project and time management skills, with a focus on achieving outcomes.
  • Self-awareness and openness to diverse perspectives in healthcare.
  • A strategic understanding of broader health system structures, policies, and performance indicators.
  • Experience in navigating complex environments and engaging with community resources and service providers.
