About Newmont
At Newmont, we're not just a world-leading gold and metals producer - we're a team united by our commitment to shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and responsible mining industry. Joining us means becoming part of a global, diverse workforce where everyone is valued, empowered, and encouraged to grow. Our people are the heart of our success, bringing exceptional skill, integrity, and dedication to everything we do as an organization and we're dedicated to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.
About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world's largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Lihir fishing and boating clubs provide access to pristine waters and beaches, while our onsite deli and café serve fresh local and imported produce, barista-made coffee, and freshly baked goods.
We are proud to work closely with the local Lihirian community and value its vibrant culture. Through initiatives like our School to Mine program, we offer meaningful employment, training, and development opportunities for Lihirian men and women, as well as scholarships and vocational apprenticeships. We also partner with the New Ireland Province to ensure economic benefits flow directly to the community, strengthening our commitment to sustainable development and positive local impact.
Job description:
Your Impact
As an Advisor Contracts, you will play a key role in ensuring Newmont's regional contracts for our Papua New Guinea operations are effectively managed, compliant, and aligned with our global procurement strategies. Your expertise will help secure critical goods and services, mitigate risks, and strengthen supplier and stakeholder relationships, all while supporting our commitment to safe, sustainable, and responsible mining.
As part of our team, you will
- Deliver the procurement plan and sustaining capital plan to schedule, ensuring projects stay on track and within budget.
- Work closely with project management teams to coordinate activities, mitigate scope creep, and maintain alignment with organizational objectives.
- Administer the full lifecycle of contracts, assisting the Category Management Lead in implementing category strategies and ensuring appropriate contracts are in place for sourcing materials and services.
- Collaborate with site operational teams to ensure contracts meet strategic objectives and support operational success.
- Implement Newmont's strategic sourcing strategies for goods and services in line with the Strategic Sourcing Playbook.
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal partners and key clients, providing visibility of the supply chain vision and ensuring internal stakeholder satisfaction.
- Build and sustain strong supplier relationships, ensuring open communication, timely resolution of contract-related issues, and favourable negotiation of contract changes.
- Supervise all contracts and procurement activities within the sub-category to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company policies, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Assess and manage risks associated with contracts, including potential legal liabilities and performance issues.
Provide regular updates on contract status, performance, and compliance, contributing insights to support the development of regional procurement methodologies.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as engineering, law, business, finance, or supply chain.
- Proven experience in contract management, procurement, or sourcing in mining, oil & gas, energy, or engineering industries.
- Experience in end-to-end sourcing activities and contract management for direct and indirect services is essential.
- Practical exposure to mining operations in PNG, including familiarity with regulatory requirements for import/export, mobilisation, and the handling of goods.
- Strong knowledge of legal principles, compliance requirements, and procurement best practices.
- Proficiency in SAP, Ariba, or similar ERP/eProcurement systems.
- Skilled in negotiations, supplier management, and contract performance evaluation.
- Strong technical skills in strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, contracts administration, negotiations, risk identification, and dispute resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse data, monitor KPIs, conduct audits or reviews, and make data-driven decisions while maintaining accuracy and compliance across multiple contracts.
- Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and foster strong relationships internally and externally.
Your work environment
Our Brisbane-based team enjoy flexible Monday to Friday work options to balance working from home and in the office. Our modern Fortitude Valley office is conveniently located near public transport and local cafés.
