Are you ready to make waves in your career? Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ), a branch of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, is seeking a dynamic Finance Manager to lead financial operations and drive strategic outcomes for safer, cleaner seas.
In this pivotal role, you'll provide expert financial advice, lead a high-performing team, and oversee budgeting, compliance, and financial governance. Your work will directly support MSQ's mission to protect Queensland's waterways and the people who use them.
Some Key Responsibilities Will Include The Following
- Provide expert strategic advice and support to MSQ leadership on all branch financial matters, including budget co-ordination and reporting, financial performance and sustainability, compliance, debt management, asset accounting, costing, and financial modelling to support business priorities.
- Provide leadership, direction and support to the Finance team to build the efficiency, capability, effectiveness and positive working environment of the team.
- Manage a challenging work program and strategic initiatives to ensure the delivery of successful financial management outcomes within agreed timeframes and resource constraints.
- Manage the provision of quality information, reporting, and submissions to Finance and Procurement Branch, Queensland Treasury, and the Cabinet Budget Review Committee throughout the annual budget cycle.
- Lead the continual improvement in financial management practices and procedures employed across the Branch including proactive communication, advice and training to ensure strong governance and accountability.
- Work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to support branch objectives and maintain productive relationships.
- Contribute to the development of corporate financial policies, strategies, and initiatives advocating for the needs and priorities of MSQ within the corporate framework.
- Undertake your duties as a manager in accordance with s40(2) & (3) of the Public Sector Act 2022 through regular management and performance conversations with staff under your supervision and by implementing departmental performance and development strategies to assist in developing and maintaining high performing and committed staff.

Requirements Of The Role
- Demonstrated high level knowledge and expertise in financial management (please see full role description for details).
- Demonstrated high level knowledge and experience in the use of contemporary financial information systems and tools and the ability to translate this knowledge into business improvements and innovation.
- Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate your team to provide a high standard of service and contribute positively to organisational culture and performance.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication style to a range of stakeholders, including communication of technical content.
- Proven ability to build enduring relationships and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve organisational objectives and priorities.
