Downer RTS is seeking a Principal Engineer - Safety Assurance. Lead innovation, shape strategy and drive engineering excellence in a high-impact leadership role.

We're building a team of high-performing Principal Engineers to lead from the front-driving innovation, delivery excellence, and commercial growth.

About the Role:

This role can be based in our Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne office.

This is a forward-leaning, high-impact opportunity for an experienced engineer ready to shape the future of transport. As a Principal Engineer - Safety Assurance, you will play a critical role in managing projects and deliverable work, winning future works and leading major programs across the rail and transit sector.

You will be trusted to shape solutions, build enduring client relationships, and drive technical and commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical leadership across complex projects and strategic opportunities.
  • Deliver high-quality safety assurance advice aligned with industry standards.
  • Lead the development and presentation of engineering solutions to clients.
  • Expand scope and revenue through value-added services and technical excellence.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, client satisfaction, and delivery focus.
  • Mentor engineering staff and support the development of future Principal Engineers.
  • Support training initiatives and maintain team knowledge currency.

About You

  • Extensive experience in technical leadership within complex engineering environments.
  • Strong background in systems integration, systems architecture, or project delivery.
  • Deep domain knowledge in safety assurance and relevant standards.
  • Chartered or certified engineering status highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to deliver services and sell technical expertise into external organisations.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in client-facing roles.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
