About the role
Working in partnership with the HR Manager, the Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the ongoing administration and day to day functionality of Human Resources at UMSU in order to continue the effective and efficient management of UMSU staff. Specifically, this position is expected to successfully deliver HR business services, improve the efficiency of HR systems and administration and to execute HR initiatives that support the full employee lifecycle, student representatives and the needs of the organisation.
The incumbent is expected to contribute towards the finalisation of HR policies and procedures including those that have a broader organisational impact on UMSU volunteers, staff and elected student representatives.
The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for providing HR related support to the HR Manager and all members of UMSU Staff.
Core responsibilities of your role include:

Assist the HR Manager by coordinating key day to day HR functions, including core staff end to end processes, administration and provision of generalist HR support to stakeholders;

Monitor and manage the team mailbox/inboxes effectively, ensuring timely responses and organisation. Escalate any critical or sensitive matters to the HR Manager as appropriate;

Act as a point of contact for employee queries regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits.

Assist employees with inquiries related to payroll, timesheets, and benefits, escalating complex issues as needed.

Assist to finalise key HR Policy and Procedure in order to support HR operations;

Support the HR Manager in handling employee relations issues;

Continued development, implementation and refinement of administrative procedures to support UMSU's core Human Resources function;
Your Expertise (Key Selection Criteria)
-
A degree in human resource management or equivalent, with at least 4 years' subsequent relevant experience.

Extensive demonstrated experience in HR administration and coordination including policy and procedure development and implementation.

Ability to consult and interact positively and widely with people from diverse backgrounds.

Highly developed written and verbal skills, including strong communication skills and the ability to write and present correspondence and project scoping documents.

Excellent attention to detail, planning, organisational and analytical skills with the ability to complete projects and tasks within set timeframes.

Demonstrated ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, effectively and empathetically with all levels of staff.

Excellent computer skills including the ability maintain databases and use content management software for website updates.

A valid employee Working with Children Check and national police check.
Bonus Points (Nice to Have)

Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, particularly in areas such as recruitment, onboarding, payroll support, and employee relations.

Experience using HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) or similar HR-related administrative tools.

Previous experience working in a community service or Not for Profit environment;

Previous experience working in a student-focused environment, such as a university, student union, or campus service.
