About Lawson Flats:

Set over three floors in one of the city's last remaining Art Deco jewels, Lawson Flats is a modern and contemporary take on a private members club, a home to a collection of rooms fit for work, life and play.

There's a sauna for sweating, a gallery for gazing and a pool room for playing. A place to get work done; an email for one, or a meeting for many – spaces to sit, host, or hide away. A movement studio for yoga, dance and pilates. A gym to lift your pulse and a bar to steady it. An assortment of private rooms – for board meetings, book clubs, birthday dinners and big parties. A listening room where the records are always changing. A karaoke room for late-night duets. And a cracking kitchen at the heart of it all.

We are open Monday to Saturday, closed on Sundays.

The Head Chef Role:

We are seeking an experienced Chef with outstanding leadership, organisational and communication skills. We create exceptional experiences for all of our guests, and our people are at the heart of this. As Head Chef, you will be responsible leading, coaching and developing our team to be the best they can be while delivering exceptional experiences to our guests. In addition to this, you will ensure the smooth running of the kitchen including management of profit, stock, wastage control, hygiene practices, and training. You'll pride yourself in ensuring the Kitchen team are energised, motivated and well placed to deliver consistency of standards and a high level of performance and presentation.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with the General Manager to design and deliver a range of menus including a la carte, event and regular changing club supper menus.
  • Overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring that the quality of our output exceeds customer expectations
  • Guiding the kitchen team to ensure consistent quality in food, appearance, and taste
  • Maintaining the quality of food preparation
  • Developing the skills of all kitchen employees through appropriate training, coaching, or mentoring

Skills and Experience:

Ideal candidates will have the following skills and experiences:

  • Exceptional Leadership and coaching skills
  • Relevant Qualifications in Commercial Cookery
  • Experience working in high-end restaurant environments and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to take direction from senior staff and a passion for coaching junior Chefs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management, task prioritisation, and resource scheduling
