We're looking for a visionary, hands-on Head Chef to bring Little Walden at Happitat to life — a brand-new café in the Gold Coast hinterland, surrounded by the world's first Cliff Park and adventure destination. This is more than a kitchen role. As Head Chef, you'll take the reins at Little Walden from day one — leading kitchen operations, shaping menus, and creating a food experience that matches Happitat's mission of life-changing adventures in nature. And this is just the beginning. With WALDEN set to open at 1696 Beechmont Road, you'll also have the rare opportunity to shape its development from inception through to launch — kitchen layout, menu design, team culture, and guest experience. In time, you'll lead both venues, building a culinary identity that reflects courage, joy, and connection with nature.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full culinary development of Little Walden — from kitchen systems to menu creation.
  • Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations and ensure smooth, consistent service.
  • Design menus that celebrate local ingredients and elevate the Happitat guest experience.
  • Partner with leadership to shape WALDEN from inception to opening at 1696 Beechmont Road.
  • Build and mentor a passionate, positive kitchen team.
  • Manage supplier relationships, with a focus on regional produce and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations and food safety standards

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years' experience leading a kitchen at Head Chef or equivalent level.
  • A creative, hands-on leader excited to shape two venues and build something iconic.
  • Strong organisational skills, with experience managing kitchens, costs, and teams.
  • Passion for fresh, local produce and a commitment to sustainability.
  • A collaborative mindset — ready to work alongside leadership in shaping Happitat's hospitality vision.
  • Availability during peak times (weekends, holidays, public and school breaks).
  • Valid driver's licence.
