The opportunity:

We have a new opportunity available for a Senior Cloud Operations Engineer. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Cloud Operations & FinOps, you will play a key role within the AIA Australia Cloud Operations Team. You will be accountable for the support, delivery & ongoing enhancement of operational services, lifecycle & compliance management, monitoring and optimisation of cloud-based infrastructure.

This is a Melbourne based opportunity, and it requires a deep understanding of Azure services, experience in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python), cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, Databricks, APIM) and contribution to cost optimisation and operational best practices (FinOps).

To do this successfully you will:

  • Support the delivery of operational services required to meet defined service levels in support of AIAA cloud hosted solutions
  • Manage the life cycle of our cloud services to ensure supportability, security and compliance policies are met
  • Implement automation to improve scalability, reliability, compliance, and efficiency of cloud infrastructure
  • Optimise cloud operating expenses by ensuring ongoing improvement of Cost analysis, Tagging, Budgeting, Anomaly Detection
  • Automate routine/day-to-day cloud operational tasks, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (KQL, PowerShell and Python) and streamline operational processes, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance requirements
  • Support the development of Azure policies and associated operational procedures for cloud operational governance
  • Drive consistent standards and approaches to create clean, well-structured, and documented solutions and processes
  • Execute established financial management strategies for cloud resources, optimizing costs and maximising efficiency

Successful applications will demonstrate:

  • Solid technical experience in Azure cloud operations
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles
  • Proficiency in KQL for querying Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
  • Proficient in scripting (PowerShell & Python) and automation tools for infrastructure-as-code and deployment/operations automation
  • Experience in effective cost management strategies, tools, models, and processes (FinOps practices)
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-400, AZ-104, or AZ-305, preferred but not essential
