The office of the Hon Mark Dreyfus, Federal Member for Isaacs is seeking applications for a full time ongoing Electorate Officer, based in the Member's electorate office in Mordialloc, VIC or Australian Parliament House in Canberra, ACT.

If based in Mordialloc, the successful applicant will be expected to undertake regular travel to Canberra to support the Member during parliamentary sitting weeks.

Position Overview

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful public service and support the work of a long-serving Member of Parliament.

This position supports flexible work arrangements and may suit individuals seeking a role with work–life balance. It may be suitable for those with prior experience in similar roles who are re-entering the workforce, those currently in similar roles seeking greater flexibility, or individuals looking to further develop their skills in these areas.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking policy research to support parliamentary work, including drafting speeches.
  • Supporting the Member in Canberra during parliamentary sitting weeks.
  • Liaising with government departments and community organisations.
  • Supporting the Member's work in the electorate and in Parliament.
  • Assisting with constituent casework and correspondence.
  • Providing administrative and office support as directed.

The ideal applicant will possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Well-developed writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Discretion, sound judgement and professionalism.
  • An understanding of the role of a federal Member of Parliament.
  • Ability to work independently and within a small team.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

  • Total salary package is $116,064 comprised of a base salary of $78,911 with an additional allowance of $37,153 in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
  • Studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

  • An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
  • The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
  • Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
  • The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
