About the role

AGL has an exciting opportunity for a BESS Remote Monitoring Engineer to join our Energy Assets division, supporting utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Australia.

You'll be the "eyes and ears" of our BESS assets, helping shape the future of energy through smart monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

The position is based in our Melbourne Corporate office, with flexible work arrangements available. You'll be part of a dynamic team driving innovation in renewable energy and digital asset performance.

What you will be doing

As BESS Remote Monitoring Engineer, you'll play a key role in enhancing the performance and reliability of AGL's battery assets through advanced data analytics and incident response:

  • Analyse telemetry and data sources to detect and define asset conditions and events.
  • Develop automated insights and procedures to streamline incident response.
  • Collaborate with AGL Dispatch Centre to investigate and diagnose near-real-time incidents.
  • Build dashboards and reports to drive performance improvements.
  • Work closely with Asset Managers to translate insights into actionable maintenance activities.
  • Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure reliability and relevance of monitoring conditions.

What you will bring

  • Engineering qualification (software, mechatronics, electrical, or related), or strong understanding of BESS systems and telemetry.
  • Experience in data handling (e.g. SQL) and coding (Python or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of statistics for event and incident design.
  • Proactive mindset with a passion for innovation and process improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including dispatchers, asset managers, and analytics specialists.
