Role Highlights: We are seeking an experienced Head of Accounting & Tax to lead a high-performing finance team in a dynamic, multinational business. This role will oversee all accounting and tax functions, drive compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and tax legislation, and lead internal audit and control frameworks.
You will play a key role while the team is looking for a permanent candidate internally. We are looking for someone who has experience in finance digital transformation, process optimisation, and strategic decision-making, partnering closely with the CFO and executive leadership.
Role Overview
Reporting into the VP of Finance, the Head of Accounting & Tax will lead the finance team in delivering accurate financial reporting, compliance, and strategic tax planning across ANZ operations for a leading multinational. You will lead a high-performing team, strengthen internal controls and audit frameworks, and champion digital transformation initiatives to streamline finance processes.
Partnering closely with executive leadership, you will provide guidance on tax planning, financial governance, and strategic initiatives, playing a key role in supporting the organisation's growth and long-term objectives.
Responsibilities
- Accounting Leadership: Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, month-end/year-end close, and preparation of annual and periodic financial statements, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), IFRS, and company policies.
- Tax Management: Lead all aspects of direct and indirect tax compliance (income tax, GST, FBT, payroll tax), liaising with external advisors and ensuring adherence to ATO and other regulatory requirements.
- Internal Audit: Establish, coordinate, and lead the internal audit network, conducting targeted audits, identifying gaps, and implementing corrective actions to strengthen governance and risk management.
- Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control frameworks, continuously improving policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and integrity of financial data.
- Digital Transformation & Innovation: Drive finance process optimisation and digital transformation initiatives, leveraging automation, digital tools, and analytics to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Leadership & Team Development: Manage and mentor the accounting and tax team, building capability, accountability, and high performance through coaching, training, and continuous development initiatives.
- Strategic & Business Support: Collaborate with the CFO and executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives, guiding to support informed business decisions. Proactively review key risks and opportunities across the business and engage your business partners in supporting the tactical execution of initiatives to close gaps, mitigate risks and leverage opportunities
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is CA/CPA qualified with 10+ years' senior finance experience, including significant tax and accounting leadership, and thrives in complex, multi-entity environments. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact while shaping the future of finance operations.
