Primary objective
The Principal Health Informatics will lead the Informatics team in the analysis and reporting of health data to improve health outcomes for NT residents;
and will support population legislated registries with technical advice that improves data management and timeliness. The role coordinates between IT and
clinical teams, manages project timelines, and ensure that health informatic solutions addresses the needs of Public Health Division and other related
stakeholders in NT Health. The Health Informatics team is focussed on operational reporting to support public health surveillance and help frontline
clinicians to drive excellence and efficiency in care.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the Health Informatics team and their portfolio of work for NT Health.
2. Work with other departments and provide technical advice and solutions to optimize efficiencies, reduce expenses, and improve operations in health
data and specifically population legislated registries, the NT Cancer and Perinatal registries.
3. Undertake interrogation and analysis of large, diverse, linked health datasets using software such as Python or SQL; and develop API access to support
analysis and data visualisation. Facilitate data linkage and data access within HSI Branch and with external stakeholders following NT Health data
governance protocols.
- Oversee and manage the production and dissemination of a range of project and evaluation reports.
- Coordinate HSI Branch dashboards and ensure the high-quality presentation of statistical data supports public health surveillance, continuous quality
improvement and clinical decision-making.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high
quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Postgraduate qualification in health informatics, computer science, population health, statistics, or a relevant discipline and 5-10 years' experience in
related field.
2. High level project management skills, preferably with experience leading health-focussed information technology projects.
- Experience in large dataset analysis using statistical software (such as R, Python, SAS or SAP Business Intelligence) and data visualisation software
(Power BI).
4. Demonstrated experience in model development; and demonstrated experience in undertaking analyses with diverse health datasets, including SQL
programming.
5. Strategic, conceptual and analytical skills; and an ability to identify and solve complex problems and provide sound strategic advice to support executive
decision-making.
- High level written and oral communication skills, an ability to communicate with influence.
- Experience developing and maintaining stakeholder partnerships, including with other government agencies and the Aboriginal Community Controlled
Sector.
8. Highly motivated with demonstrated initiative in the workplace to drive change in an environment of continuous improvement; and a demonstrated
ability to modify approaches to suit changing client requirements and deliver outcomes.
9. Proven experience evaluating, implementing, or managing cloud-based data platforms (such as Microsoft Fabric or equivalent), ensuring scalable, secure,
and integrated health data solutions.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualification in statistical analysis or biostatistics, quantitative modelling, experimental design, survey research and/or a related field;
Vendor Software Certifications; and/or ITIL Qualification.
2. Previous experience in software development and/or in the development of Representational State Transfer (REST) application programming interface
(API).
