Primary objective

The School Operations Manager provides operational leadership, advice, and management support in the areas of finance, procurement,

administration, infrastructure, security, and asset management, as well as human resource management for non-teaching staff in a busy and

demanding school environment, including liaison with centralised service providers.

Context statement

Gapuwiyak School is located 220km west of Nhulunbuy. The school offers preschool, primary and secondary education for approximately 230

students. Some students are also educated in the Homeland Learning Centres of Raymangirr and Donydji which are operated by Gapuwiyak. The

school focuses on the priorities of attendance through engagement, student achievement in numeracy, literacy as well as pathways to employment

or further study.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide leadership, overall supervision and professional growth of the non-teaching staff within the school to ensure the effective provision

of procurement, administrative, infrastructure, budget, and classroom support services.

2. Ensure the School Representative Body's responsibilities as an employer are met including processing of complex payrolls, effective workplace

wellbeing and compliance with legislative requirements.

3. Develop and implement school-based support services and processes that provide for cost-effective, timely, and appropriate delivery including

grants management systems and appropriate management of internal controls.

4. Implement an ongoing program of continuous improvement for school support systems and processes including proactive data collection,

analysis, and performance monitoring and reporting.

5. Coordinate, facilitate, and implement infrastructure and asset management within the school, including contract management and oversight

for repairs and maintenance programs, workplace health safety, security, as well as use of school facilities and equipment.

  1. Liaise and negotiate with service providers and contractors to coordinate delivery of school services and support the achievement of school

and departmental strategic objectives.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience leading and delivering services in the following business support areas: financial management, procurement,

administrative, human resource management, workplace health and safety, records management, and asset and facility management.

  1. Demonstrated ability to cultivate a collegial environment and build capacity of Indigenous team members through formal and informal ongoing

training and guidance.

3. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse and report on business support activities using data and accurate records to provide appropriate

strategic and operational advice to principals and stakeholders; with the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality.

4. Demonstrated high-level communication skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks and collaborative

partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including the capacity to communicate effectively in bilingual and cross-cultural

contexts.

  1. High-level adaptability, flexibility, and resilience including the ability to manage pressure and lead change in an environment undertaking

change, and to modify approaches to suit diverse people and situations.

  1. Demonstrated high-level computer literacy skills including experience with the effective use of various office applications and financial

accounting systems.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in Business or Finance and knowledge of the General NTPS Conditions of Service and Award for relevant streams.

2. A working knowledge of the education systems, school environment, and project management experience to contribute to the development

of business support strategies and initiatives.

obtaining, a current Working with Children Card, hold an NT Driver's license, and current First Aid Certificate.
