SEQH is seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Officer to lead compliance, training, and risk management across our operations in Brisbane and Toowoomba.

Company Overview:

South East Queensland Hauliers is a full service wharf logistics provider based in Hemmant, 5 minutes from the Port of Brisbane. Founded in the 1960's, SEQH have grown to become one of the largest import/export wharf carriers whilst still remaining a family owned and operated business.

SEQH reside on company owned sites in both Hemmant and Toowoomba. Both of which are undergoing 2025 planned infrastructure developments that have been initiated by genuine growth. It's an exciting time to join

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with OHS regulations and internal policies; review and update procedures regularly.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents; maintain daily hazard and near-miss reporting to management.
  • Develop strategies to prevent workplace injuries and improve health and safety outcomes.
  • Provide weekly driver behaviour and incident reports; support corrective action planning.
  • Conduct monthly audits for licensing compliance (Drivers & Forklift Operators).
  • Manage PPE inventory and distribution.
  • Perform pre-employment and random Drug & Alcohol screenings.
  • Report monthly on WorkCover cases and manage return-to-work programs.
  • Monitor and coach driver and forklift operator performance.
  • Lead monthly safety meetings and participate in toolbox talks.

Key Requirements

  • Cert IV or higher in Work Health and Safety (WHS) – mandatory
  • Experience in a safety role, with transport/logistics industry experience highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and Chain of Responsibility (CoR)
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations, and managing compliance
  • Confident in delivering training, running safety meetings, and engaging frontline staff
  • Excellent communication, time management, and attention to detail
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and with cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel to Toowoomba depot as required
