About the role:
Working under the direction of the Financial Controller – Shared Services, Agri-business & Hospitality (FC), the Finance Officer (FO) provides support in the day-to-day financial activities of the Group's businesses (excluding Property). This includes processing transactions, maintaining accurate records, assisting with reporting requirements, and helping to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
Some responsibilities will include:
• Accounts Payable (AP):
- Process supplier invoices, verify accuracy, prepare payments, and handle approvals.
- Maintain supplier records and manage timely payments.
• Accounts Receivable (AR):
- Generate customer invoices, follow up on outstanding balances, and manage collections.
- Reconcile AR ledgers and resolve discrepancies.
- Perform regular reconciliations of bank statements, AP/AR sub-ledgers, and general ledger accounts.
- Identify and investigate anomalies; ensure corrective actions are applied.
• Data Processing & Financial Record Management:
- Accurately enter invoices, payments, and receipts into our financial system.
- Update and maintain financial data in internal systems for reporting and audit purposes.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities including accruals, cut-offs, and ledger entries.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing reconciliations, supporting documentation, and audit inquiries.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory standards.
- Contribute to refining AP/AR workflows, workflows, and internal control procedures.
- Assist in developing and implementing finance policies and practices.
- Liaise with internal teams (e.g. procurement, sales), external suppliers, and possibly auditors to resolve issues.
- Provide assistance and training to colleagues on AP/AR procedures when needed.
Enough about us, let's talk about you
- Tertiary qualifications from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience in a similar role
- Broad experience across a range of finance transaction processing including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and monthly GL reconciliations
- Proficiency with relevant business systems and tools (Xero, DEAR, MS Excel etc)
- Experience in accounting for agricultural, manufacturing and hospitality businesses is advantageous
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound time management and ability to manage conflicting demands.
- Consistent ability to work well under pressure, responding effectively to changing priorities.
- Able to build positive & collaborative internal and external relationships with a range of stakeholders
