Launceston, Tasmania, Australia Strait Link Logistics Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

About Strait Link

Strait Link has a proud history as a vital link in the supply chain between Tasmania and the Australian mainland. As an end-to-end logistics provider, everyday our people - on our vessels, at ports, at our depots and warehouses, and in our trucks and offices - play a vital role connecting Tasmanian businesses and communities.

Through daily sea freight services between Port of Melbourne in Victoria and Port of Burnie in Tasmania, our world-class ships connect the Tasmanian economy and communities with customers, suppliers and markets across Australia and, in turn, the world.

About the Role

Are you passionate about process, data accuracy, and solving operational challenges?

Strait Link Logistics is seeking a Process Improvement Lead to take ownership of pallet management across our logistics network. Most pallets used by our customers are rented and therefore need to be tracked and returned.

You'll be standardising and improving pallet tracking processes, assisting the business to report against KPIs, an escalation point for investigating discrepancies and liaising with customers, reviewing and making recommendations on pallet control customer terms and conditions, providing role coverage, and training and educating colleagues across the business in how they can contribute to effective pallet control.

In this role, you'll indirectly lead a small team responsible for pallet management spread across Tasmania and Melbourne so travel will be required.  Ideally the role will be based at Launceston, however, we will consider the role being based in Hobart, Burnie or Melbourne (Webb Dock) at any of our sites in these locations.

If you thrive on problem-solving, enjoy digging into data, and can bring people together to deliver results – we want to hear from you.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for effective pallet control procedures and influencing positive improvements to base processes and systems that support pallet control across the logistics business.
  • Driving continuous improvement in pallet management by working with the operations, sales and finance teams and customers to identify and solve repetitive issues related to pallet imbalances.
  • Providing training and development in effective pallet control procedures for all roles contributing to pallet control within logistics.
  • Provide/support role coverage initiatives for pallet controllers and support Branch operations managers with succession planning for key roles related to pallet management.
  • Monitor KPI performance and engage with operational teams on pallet management performance to present regular reports to management highlighting performance against KPIs, trends, opportunities and threats.
  • Support commercial and sales teams by providing pallet management insights to inform customer terms and conditions, quoting and pricing.
  • Development and execution of strategies to improve pallet management within Strait Link and contribute to strategies and operational improvements in administration for the logistics business more broadly.
  • Other tasks reasonably required from time to time.
