About the role:

As Head of Construction at Bison, you'll play a pivotal role overseeing the strategic and operational delivery of high-quality industrial, commercial and rural construction projects. This is a hands-on, functional position where you'll work closely with our senior leadership team to drive project management processes. You'll lead the implementation of standardised controls to enhance project governance, improve risk management, and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. Collaborating with the project management team, site supervisors, WH&S and our fabrication teams, you'll prove yourself as a proactive leader with a passion for driving transformation and delivering results. While Launceston is the preferred location for the successful applicant, those residing in Hobart and surrounds will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, and maintain project controls framework, including safety, cost, schedule, risk, and performance monitoring.

  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks and opportunities, integrating enterprise risk management practices to mitigate potential issues.

  • Establish consistent project governance and benchmarking frameworks to improve project setup, monitoring, and close-out practices.

  • Oversee the development of integrated project schedules and cost management systems to ensure accuracy, predictability, and accountability.

  • Facilitate project performance reporting, ensuring leadership visibility of key metrics including safety, budget, progress, risks, and variances.

  • Develop and deliver training and tools and act as a change agent to lead cultural and process shifts that drive continuous improvement in project delivery.

  • Support strategic decision-making through data-driven insights and project performance analytics.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants, contractors, and suppliers

  • Oversee procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors, ensuring cost-effectiveness and ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and WH&S standards

  • Daily use of project management software such as Procore for effective and efficient communication with trades, the client and the project management team.

Key Skills & Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience working on major construction projects, with demonstrated ability managing a portfolio of projects $60M+

  • Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar industry relevant qualification

  • Strong functional knowledge of project management, cost control, planning and scheduling, estimating, WH&S and procurement.

  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across all organisational levels.

  • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills
