The Opportunity The Head of Science is a pivotal leadership position within the College's Middle and Senior Schools, responsible for the strategic direction, coordination and continuous improvement of Science programs (Years 6–12).

Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning, Penquite Campus, this role combines curriculum leadership, team management, and classroom teaching, inspiring both staff and students through a culture of excellence, innovation, and inquiry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of Science programs aligned with College goals and academic standards.
  • Support and mentor Science staff through collaborative planning, coaching, and professional growth.
  • Manage departmental resources, budgets, and laboratory safety compliance.
  • Foster an inclusive, engaging, and forward-thinking learning environment that supports diverse student needs.
  • Contribute actively to the Heads of Department forum and College leadership initiatives.

  • Proven experience in educational leadership and curriculum development in Science (Years 6–12).
  • Expertise in managing Science programs, budgets, and safety standards.
  • Strong team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and alignment with whole-school strategic goals.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding the wellbeing of young people.
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board and a current Working with Vulnerable People (Children) Registration.
