Senior Technology Counsel at a Leading Energy Company 5 + PQE
Our client is a key player in Australia's energy transition, partnering with governments on critical infrastructure programs to deliver a net-zero energy system. As coal plants retire, they support the coordination of investment in transmission, generation, storage and firming of energy infrastructure.
Position Description
As a Senior/Legal Counsel within this industry leading Legal Team, you will play a vital role in supporting Australia's energy transition. Collaborating closely with senior lawyers, leadership, and external stakeholders in government and industry, you will deliver high-quality legal advice on complex, high-impact technology projects.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Completing legal due diligence, compliance reviews, and contract finalisation
- Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing SaaS Agreements
- Managing Technology Procurement Contracts
- Ensuring Data Privacy Compliance: Advise on compliance with global data protection laws including drafting privacy policies
- Negotiate and finalize data processing agreements (DPAs)
- Providing Legal Advice on Cybersecurity: Collaborate with IT teams to assess and mitigate cybersecurity risks, including advising on incident response plans, data breach notifications, and compliance with cybersecurity frameworks
- Supporting Technology Licensing: Review and negotiate technology licensing agreements
- Advising on Intellectual Property Protection
- Overseeing Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and advise on compliance with technology-specific regulations
- Conducting Risk Assessments for Technology Projects: Evaluate legal risks in new technology initiatives, such as AI deployments or digital transformation projects
- Training Staff on Privacy and Data Security: Develop and deliver training programs for employees on data protection, privacy policies, and best practices
- Liaising with External Counsel
The successful candidate will have:
- 5-9 years PQE from an established technology team in private practice or in-house
- Be a team player who can thrive in a dynamic and fast paced team
- Be comfortable collaborating with broader business units on complex projects
