Legal Counsel - Construction 5+ PQE

With $3.45 billion in project commencements, poised for significant contributions to major infrastructure projects their legal team is ready to welcome a strong construction lawyer.

As Legal Counsel, you will join a dynamic legal team, providing critical support for high-value construction projects across Australia. Reporting to the Group General Counsel, you will deliver expert legal and contractual advice on front and back-end construction matters, ensuring compliance and driving project success. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality legal and contractual advice on front-end construction projects, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
  • Conduct legal due diligence, compliance reviews, and contract finalisation for major projects.
  • Advise on tender processes, including preparing tender-related documents and contracts such as development agreements and construction contracts.
  • Support the management of procurement processes for external legal and contractual engagements.
  • Collaborate with project teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on project objectives and legal requirements.
  • Maintain and update internal legal and contracts knowledge resources and precedents.
  • Support corporate governance, compliance, and risk management initiatives.
  • Advise cross-functional teams, including Commercial, Project Management, and Risk divisions, on legal and contractual matters.
  • Represent the company in negotiations and engagements with external stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and government bodies.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • 5+ years PQE in construction, projects, or commercial law, gained from a leading private practice or established in-house legal team.
  • Strong experience in front-end construction project matters, including contract drafting, negotiation, and tender processes.
  • Familiarity with the construction or infrastructure sector is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
