Our client is one of Australia's largest energy companies with over 4 million customers and a diverse generation portfolio including coal, gas, renewable energy, and battery storage assets. They operate retail energy businesses across multiple states and are investing heavily in new energy infrastructure including EV charging networks, large-scale solar farms, and grid-scale battery projects. With operations across the National Electricity Market, they manage complex grid connections for both customer-facing DER and utility-scale infrastructure projects.

About the Role

Australia's electricity network is experiencing unprecedented connection demand from EV charging infrastructure, rooftop and utility-scale solar, and battery storage projects. Network connection timeframes have blown out significantly, creating major project delivery risks. Our client is seeking an experienced Grid Connection Manager to navigate these challenges and secure timely connections for their growing infrastructure pipeline across NSW, Queensland, and Victoria.

This is a hands-on operational role managing grid connections for real infrastructure projects. You will spend significant time dealing with DNSPs, chasing applications, solving technical roadblocks, and keeping projects on track. You will work with internal project teams, external contractors, and network operators to deliver connections across multiple sites and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead grid connection applications and approvals for EV charging infrastructure, solar projects, and BESS installations
  • Manage relationships with distribution network service providers (DNSPs) across multiple jurisdictions
  • Coordinate network augmentation requirements and cost assessments for connection projects
  • Develop connection strategies and timelines for project pipeline across NSW, QLD, and VIC
  • Negotiate connection agreements and manage technical requirements with network operators
  • Oversee electrical design reviews and compliance with network standards and regulations
  • Manage connection enquiry processes, feasibility assessments, and capacity analysis
  • Coordinate with project delivery teams, engineers, and contractors on connection milestones
  • Track and report on connection status, risks, and delays across project portfolio
  • Provide technical expertise on network constraints, voltage management, and power quality issues
  • Support business development with connection feasibility advice and cost estimates
  • Engage with AEMO, AER, and state regulators on connection policy and process improvements

What You'll Bring

Our client is seeking a candidate who has:

  • Professional with experience in grid connections, network engineering, or infrastructure project delivery
  • Strong understanding of electricity network operations, connection processes, and technical standards
  • Experience managing connections for renewable energy, EV charging, or battery storage projects
  • Excellent knowledge of DNSP connection requirements across multiple network jurisdictions
  • Understanding of network augmentation, load assessments, and electrical engineering principles
  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills with ability to negotiate with network operators
  • Strong project management capabilities with experience managing multiple connection projects
  • Proactive approach with ability to navigate complex regulatory and technical requirements
  • Excellent communication skills for technical discussions and commercial negotiations
  • Genuine interest in renewable energy, EV charging, and energy storage technologies

Highly Regarded:

  • Electrical engineering degree or relevant technical qualifications
  • Experience with AEMO connection processes and NEM technical requirements
  • Knowledge of EV charging standards, solar PV systems, and battery storage technologies
  • Understanding of network planning, capacity management, and augmentation processes
  • Professional qualifications in project management or electrical engineering

Why Apply?

Our client offers:

  • Leading energy company deploying Australia's largest EV charging and renewable infrastructure portfolio
  • Competitive remuneration package of $180,000 - $220,000 plus superannuation and additional bonus scheme
  • Substantial staff energy discounts for you and your family members
  • Additional annual leave entitlements and flexible hybrid working arrangements
  • Professional development budget for continuing education and technical training
  • Employee share ownership plan with company matching
  • Private health insurance subsidy and comprehensive wellbeing programmes
  • Modern office facilities with end-of-trip amenities and collaborative workspaces
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy infrastructure and emerging technologies
  • Career development pathways into senior infrastructure and project leadership roles
