A short-term relief opportunity exists for a Senior Social Worker in the Department of Community Child Health team at Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick. This is a 0.84FTE temporary position commencing 12th January and concluding 20th April

This role will provide a culturally appropriate Social Work service to the children, young people and families that we serve in outreach and community clinics. This includes children with refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, Aboriginal children in collaboration with the La Perouse Aboriginal Clinic team and children with developmental-behavioural issues.

The Social Worker will provide individual case management and crisis intervention support and referral support to external agencies and will use community development and advanced practice skills to provide counselling and to engage families and community. What you'll be doing

The Community Child Health team offers comprehensive and accessible services and programs for refugee and Aboriginal children and those with development and behavioural problems and their families in South Eastern Sydney. The multidisciplinary team is highly supportive and includes Aboriginal staff. The role includes both cultural and clinical supervision with opportunities for further education and training.

The Senior Social Worker is part of a multi-disciplinary Community Child Health team providing specialised assessments and therapeutic services for children with health development and/or behavioural issues and their families/carers and provide a broad range of community based social work services to families including consultation/liaison with community networks, advocacy, education, initiation and leading team participation in community development.

The Senior Social Worker is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children and their families are met. The position takes a leadership role in supporting Aboriginal Health Workers and Allied Health professionals within Community Child Health, SCHN and externally. The social worker also provides a consultative role to key external stakeholders such as Education.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Substantial experience in working with Aboriginal children, families and community as well as children and families from refugee and asylum seeking backgrounds including demonstrated experience in trauma and mental health interventions
  • Eligibility for AASW membership with significant post graduate experience in social work practice with families and children.
  • Significant post-graduate experience in a variety of social work interventions/modalities including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counselling, group work and family therapy.
