About the role
Western Health is seeking a Project Officer to join the team delivering the New Melton Hospital — one of Victoria's largest and most significant health infrastructure projects. In this diverse and dynamic role, you'll work alongside clinical, non-clinical, and project teams to drive service development, change management, and stakeholder engagement.
If you're highly organised, proactive, and passionate about shaping patient-centred care, this is your chance to make a real impact on a project that will transform healthcare for one of Australia's fastest-growing communities.
As Project Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of the New Melton Hospital Project — a once-in-a-generation health infrastructure investment that will transform care for Melbourne's west.
You will work across a broad range of project activities including service development, change management, documentation, and stakeholder engagement. The role is highly dynamic and requires someone who is organised, proactive, and solutions-focused. Acting as a key representative of the NMH Project Team, you will collaborate with clinical, non-clinical, and project staff as well as external partners to ensure the hospital is designed and delivered to be safe, functional, and patient-centred from day one.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting clinical, non-clinical, and project staff to deliver project activities with robust consultation across the life of the project.
- Developing, maintaining, and managing project documentation.
- Preparing high-quality reports on project activities, risks, and milestones.
- Assisting in the preparation of communications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensuring accurate recording of all project documentation.
- Facilitating complex system redesign and service transition activities using redesign and co-design methodologies.
- Maintaining effective communication and relationships with stakeholders across all levels.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to support project delivery.
- Managing workload effectively to meet deadlines while addressing complex issues and problem-solving.
- Performing other duties as directed by the NMH Project Managers or Director.
About you:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in health (Allied Health, Nursing, or Medical).
- Extensive clinical experience within a large, complex healthcare organisation.
- Strong understanding of public hospital operations, planning, and governance.
- Experience participating in or leading projects in a healthcare setting.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflicts constructively.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to research, analyse, and prepare reports to support decision-making.
- Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders to support planning and project outputs.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new challenges and work independently to meet deadlines.
- Strong computer literacy.
