Primary objective
Provide technical support to the Flora and Fauna Division, through management of equipment, infrastructure and assets,
and support for surveys and research project throughout the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
• Under limited direction, maintain and organise equipment used for biodiversity research, including vehicles and vessels,
small assets, and procurement, and support facilities maintenance.
- Under limited direction, assist with the planning and organisation for research and surveys of fauna and flora.
- Under limited direction, assist in maintenance of databases, including collation and entry of data.
- Liaise and work collaboratively with Indigenous and non-Indigenous land managers and landowners to undertake field
projects.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and carry out field-based ecological research and survey programs, and implement
a range of contemporary sampling techniques for flora/fauna.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain equipment used for biodiversity research and surveys, including vehicles,
vessels, small assets, including undertaking appropriate procurement.
3. Demonstrated ability to undertake field operations in remote areas for extended time periods, and to meet WHS
guidelines.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision, to meet deadlines.
5. Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and work with natural resource managers in a wide range of settings and
to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
6. An Australian driver's license.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the flora and/or fauna of the Northern Territory.
2. Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Experience in the use of 4WD vehicles and ATVs
Further information
This position may have significant fieldwork commitments in the southern and northern regions of the Northern Territory.
The ability to travel for fieldwork periods up to 14 days is required.
