Primary objective

Working in a small team to manage and support threatened species recovery projects.

Context statement

The Species Management unit of the Flora and Fauna Division performs several key threatened species functions, including

managing and supporting species recovery programs, and managing conservation assessments and listings.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Contribute to the design and implementation of research and management projects for threatened species' recovery.

2. Manage and analyse data and report findings in published scientific or technical reports and produce other

communication products.

3. Plan and undertake fieldwork, including organising other staff and complex logistics for remote fieldtrips, and ensure that

Standard Operating Procedures and WHS guidelines are followed.

  1. Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Traditional Owners, rangers, and other land managers in threatened species

recovery.

  1. Support the sustainable development of the Territory through assistance with species conservation assessments and

listings, and provision of scientific and technical advice to inform management and policy.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. A relevant scientific degree or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.

  1. Experience working effectively in a team, including field teams in remote environments for extended periods.
  2. Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate field operations, maintain field equipment and to meet WHS guidelines.

  3. Experience in implementing ecological research and analysing and managing ecological datasets.

  4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally with a range of scientific and non-scientific

clients, especially people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

6. Current manual NT Driver's Licence or equivalent and ability to operate a four-wheel drive in off-road conditions.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of NT fauna and ecosystems.

Further information

The position is based in Alice Springs but may contribute to projects throughout the Northern Territory.
