Council Overview

Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney's Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually.  Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 60,000 by 2041.

About the Opportunity

Strathfield Council is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented professional to manage all aspects of procurement and tendering. This role is responsible for overseeing the effective procurement of goods and services, monitoring internal procurement systems, and ensuring compliance with purchasing policies and regulations.

You will provide procurement support and advice to staff, review and negotiate supplier agreements, and lead initiatives to improve procurement efficiency and value for money across Council operations.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated knowledge and experience in procurement.
  • Well-developed negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and high-level communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Practical experience with exposure to purchasing and procurement procedures, budget management, business process improvement, contract/agreement management, tender evaluations, and audit procedures.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to set priorities, manage variable workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to attend concurrently to several competing matters.
  • Ability to review systems, processes and procedures and implement improvements in procurement.

Desirable

  • Proven ability to provide training to all Council staff with regards to procurement requirements and associated matters.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current trends in purchasing.
  • Experience in the use of content management system (CM10) and procurement systems such as Authority-Civica systems.
