About the role
The Senior Advisor, Project Excellence is a key position within the Project Strategy & Delivery Division, reporting directly to the Executive Director, Project Division. The division oversees the strategic planning, execution, and delivery of Parliament's digital and built environment projects, through its Digital Transformation and Capital Works Strategy & Delivery branches.
This role provides expert guidance, tools, and frameworks to strengthen project management capability across the Department. You will champion project delivery standards, support project managers, capture and share lessons learned, provide governance advice, and support the development of business cases and reports to inform senior decision-making.
Key responsibilities
- Support project teams to apply best practice project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and enterprise tools and templates.
- Lead lessons-learned and retrospective activities to embed continuous improvement across the department.
- Lead the Project Managers' Community of Practice, providing mentoring, training, and capability uplift for the department.
- Provide advice on project governance, including structuring of stakeholder groups, processes, and reporting, in line with Parliament frameworks.
- Assist the Executive Director with monthly reports, insights, and portfolio performance advice.
- Collaborate with senior management to identify training needs, process improvements, and opportunities to enhance project delivery.
- Support the preparation of business cases and high-quality project documentation.
- Provide expert guidance to project teams across a diverse portfolio of digital and built environment projects.
About you
You are an experienced project professional with a strong background in delivering complex projects in enterprise-level environments. You have deep knowledge of recognised project management methodologies, excellent business writing skills, and a collaborative approach to supporting project teams. Experience across both digital transformation and built environment projects is highly desirable.
You will be comfortable engaging with senior management, facilitating communities of practice, and providing actionable insights that champion excellence and consistency in project delivery.
Key knowledge and experience
- Extensive experience delivering projects in complex, enterprise-level environments (digital and/or physical).
- Strong knowledge of recognised project management methodologies (Agile, SAFe, PRINCE2, PMBOK, or similar).
- Experience leading project reviews, capturing lessons learned, and advising teams to improve project delivery.
- Experience providing governance advice and supporting senior decision-making through reporting.
- Excellent written communication skills and experience preparing professional reports and correspondence.
- Experience working across both digital and built environment projects is highly desirable.
